Study in Australia
World-class education, stunning beaches, and a thriving post-study work landscape.
Australia hosts over 700,000 international students, making it the third most popular study destination globally. With 9 universities in the QS World Top 100 for 2025, it offers a unique blend of high-ranking institutions, a relaxed lifestyle, and generous post-study work rights of up to 6 years. For Indian students, the similar academic structure and vibrant diaspora community ease the transition significantly.

Why Study in Australia?
6 compelling reasons to choose Australia for your studies.
Global Top 100 Density
Despite having only 43 universities, an impressive 9 are ranked in the QS World University Rankings Top 100 for 2025. This concentration of excellence, led by the University of Melbourne (#13) and University of Sydney (#18), means a high probability of graduating from a globally recognized institution, significantly boosting your resume's international credibility.
Unmatched Post-Study Work Rights
Australia's Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485) is one of the world's most generous. Bachelor's and Master's graduates can work for 2-3 years, while PhDs get 4 years. Crucially, studying in a regional area can add 1-2 extra years, and Indian graduates with a Bachelor's (Honours) in STEM fields can now access up to 3 years, providing a substantial runway to gain global work experience and recover educational costs.
The 'MIT of Australia' for Tech & Engineering
While the Group of Eight (Go8) universities are famous, institutions like the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and RMIT are industry powerhouses. UTS, ranked #88 globally, invests heavily in AI, cybersecurity, and data science labs, with curriculum co-designed by companies like Atlassian and Google. This ensures skills are immediately relevant, not just theoretical.
A Clear, Points-Based Pathway to Permanent Residency
Unlike the lottery systems in the US or UK, Australia's General Skilled Migration program is transparent and points-tested. By studying an in-demand occupation (from the MLTSSL list like Software Engineer, Civil Engineer, or Registered Nurse), gaining Australian work experience, and studying regionally, you can systematically accumulate points toward a Skilled Independent Visa (subclass 189) or state-nominated visa (subclass 190).

Admission Requirements
Recognized Bachelor's Degree
A 4-year Bachelor's degree or a 3-year degree plus a 1-year Master's from an Indian university (Section 1 UGC-recognized) is standard. Go8 universities often require a First Class/Division (60-65% minimum) for coursework Master's programs.
GMAT / GRE Scores
For MBA programs at Melbourne Business School or UNSW (AGSM), a competitive GMAT score of 680+ is expected. For Master's in Engineering or Computer Science, a GRE score of 310+ can significantly strengthen your application, though it's not always mandatory.
Research Proposal (for MRes/PhD)
A detailed 1000-2000 word research proposal outlining your research question, methodology, and literature review is mandatory. Securing a supervisor's informal agreement before applying is an unwritten rule and dramatically increases your admission and scholarship chances.
Work Experience & CV
For MBA, Master of Public Health, or Master of Social Work, 2-5 years of relevant, post-qualification work experience is a strict entry requirement. A detailed CV in Australian format highlighting achievements over duties is essential.

Visa Process
Receive Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE)
After accepting your university offer and paying the initial tuition deposit (usually 1 semester's fee), you'll receive a CoE. This is the most important document for your visa application. You cannot apply without it.
Arrange Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)
Purchase OSHC for the entire duration of your student visa. You must buy it from an approved Australian provider. The policy must start from the day you arrive in Australia, not the day your course starts.
Prepare Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) Statement
This is a personal statement in English (300 words max) explaining your genuine intention to stay in Australia temporarily for study. Detail your ties to India (family, assets, job prospects back home), the value of the course to your career, and your immigration history. This is the #1 reason for visa refusals.
Gather Financial Capacity Evidence
You must show proof of funds covering 12 months of travel, living costs, and tuition. As of 2024, this is roughly AUD $24,505 for living + tuition fees. Acceptable evidence includes bank statements, education loans from approved banks, or proof of a scholarship.
Complete English Language Test & Medical Exam
Take your IELTS/PTE/TOEFL to meet the university's and visa's minimum score. Then, undergo a health examination from a Department of Home Affairs panel physician. The list of approved clinics in India is on their website.
Lodge Online Application via ImmiAccount
Create an ImmiAccount, fill in the application form, upload all color-scanned documents (CoE, passport, OSHC, financials, GTE, English test, health clearance), and pay the visa fee (AUD $710). Biometrics will be collected at an Australian Visa Application Centre (AVAC) in India.
